Thank you, STARBASE Supporters!
STARBASE Victory is truly a partnership between the Portsmouth Public School (PPS) system, the community and the 501(C)3 nonprofit corporation, STARBASE Victory, Inc. PPS endorses STARBASE and provides the schoolhouse, the highly qualified instructors and bus transportation from /to the program. Our donors provide the resources we need to support the only public-private STARBASE program currently in the United States!
STARBASE Welcomes New Partner Commitments!
Dominion Energy is supporting STARBASE both through funding and assisting us to educate our students in the ENVIROBASE program. Dominion’s meteorologist Jeff Mock provided a show-and-tell demonstration for campers in August who attended one of the ENVIROBASE camps. Of course, students and parents enjoyed the goodie bags too!
“At Dominion Energy, we are all about helping the next generation embrace STEM concepts, especially diverse groups who may not have equal access to those opportunities,” said Bonita Billingsley Harris, Dominion Energy’s Media/Community Relations Manager. “We are proud to help fund the Starbase Victory summer camp which prepares bright young minds for some of the most lucrative, impactful careers of the future.”
SimIS, Inc. has been involved in the Portsmouth Public Schools Robotics program for a long time, and now is also committed to STARBASE Victory! SimIS Inc, founded in 2007, is a Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB), technology services corporation which is experiencing exponential growth by developing innovative approaches, solutions and products in four of the fastest growing technology sectors – Modeling & Simulation (M&S), Enterprise Architectures, Software (SW) development and Test and Evaluation (T&E).
Johnny Garcia, Ph.D., the Founder and CEO of SimIS Inc., recently accepted the 2018 Small Business of the Year for both the City of Portsmouth and the entire Hampton Roads area. It is an honor to have Johnny and his team actively involved with STARBASE.
It is important to support STARBASE because children need to be exposed to STEM education at a very early age, said Johnny Garcia, CEO, SimIS. “By the time they reach high school and college, it is too late, and the window of opportunity has passed.”
We thank our supporters who have made a commitment, realizing the value of keeping such a successful program stable and growing.
